How are free items licensed?
Exactly like paid ones. Free means the price is zero, not that the item is unlicensed or unreviewed.
What you get
The same as any purchase:
- A licence entry in My licences.
- A purchase code.
- Free updates for as long as you hold it.
- The tier terms shown on the item page.
Checkout still runs, it just does not ask for payment, and the licence appears immediately.
They are reviewed like everything else
A free item goes through the same check as a paid one for code quality, security and whether the seller had the right to publish it. Free is not a way around review, and an item that fails does not go live at any price.
What free does not include
Sellers are generally not offering the same support on something nobody paid for. The item page tells you what its support window is, and it may be none. Judge it before you build something important on top.
You still cannot resell it
Free to download does not mean free to redistribute. The licence terms still apply, including one project per licence and no reselling the item itself. See the free items policy for the detail.
